The Beaconhouse National University established the Institute of Public Policy (IPP) in the fall of 2006 as an independent, private sector think tank for research on economic, social, political and foreign policy issues.

Throughout most of its history, Pakistan´s socioeconomic policies have been drafted without using serious analytical work. Consequently, until recently, no adequate institutional backing was available to today's policymakers either in the public or in the private sector to guide the government´s actions in development. The country needed proper public policy organisations such as the IPP in the 21st Century where globalization would proceed and knit together world economies.

At present the Institute stands at the forefront of public policy research and debate at the international, national, and local tiers. It has established a network with policy makers both at federal and sub-national levels, and through its publications and policy advice it makes a contribution to public policy debate in Pakistan.
